PRB Company Profile

PRB Horseboxes was created some 18 years ago out of a desire to fulfil a basic need for a horsebox for myself. Having then trawled through the then dubious market as was the horsebox world 18-20 years ago and having seen some of the efforts that were forwarded for me to purchase, I decided really that what was on offer for the budget I had at that time was, in my view, somewhat unrealistic; and there the trek began.

I, Richard Bolton, had a background of retail and mechanical - engineering which dated back to my early youth. Having just sold a business and gone through my sabbatical, I decided it would be a good project to construct a horsebox for my own use.

During the period of construction, it became clear the need for quality horseboxes was now great - now being a sucker for punishment I was bitten. The bug had well and truly got me from then the long process began.

The first 5 or 6 years were an amazing expediential learning curve full of pitfalls and enormous chasms to overcome. The construction techniques of all those years ago were massively different to those of today with the main constituent being steel tubing.

Weight at that time really wasn't of concern. It seems again, all those years ago, that most seven and a half ton vehicles were excessively

heavy and design and construction were based around a budget and the transport solely of horses, unlike today's modern horseboxes where the major constituent and often main design feature is based around human comforts.

In fact, as an Americanism they should be termed as Rv's (Recreational Vehicles). And so the long, arduous process began, albeit in a more enthusiastic than professional manner all those years ago with improvements in design, construction etc almost with the next vehicle produced. Up until today where we now employ 22 staff, many of which have been with me for 8 and 10 years with the key personnel coming through the ranks thereby learning not only about the vehicles but also about the type of clients and the client needs that we have experienced.

We have grown into a company essentially split into five divisions.

  1. New vehicle builds
  2. Used vehicle sales
  3. Full service and MOT facility
  4. Small and large refurbishments
  5. Any insurance repair requirements
To summarise, we have tried to offer quite a unique service for clients almost from cradle to grave. Our current success rate we openly boast about is a 60-70% repeat or referred sale basis. This is a figure for which we are both proud and constantly ensuring we maintain.
